Promoting indigenous knowledge through beadwork
The Kibiko community is known for its deeply rooted traditions and culture. One of the traditional activities that local women engage in is beadwork, a craft that has been passed down through generations. At GCBC, we value and embrace indigenous knowledge, and we actively support women in continuing their beadwork as a means of cultural preservation and income generation.
We provide small loans to help these women purchase the necessary materials for their craft. Additionally, we assist in finding markets for their beautiful beadwork, ensuring they receive fair compensation for their artistry. By doing so, we not only help preserve a vital aspect of their cultural heritage but also empower them economically.
Looking ahead, we envision creating an e-commerce platform that will enable these talented artisans to sell their exquisite pieces across the country and even internationally. This platform will expand their market reach, allowing them to showcase their craftsmanship to a broader audience and generate additional income. Our goal is to ensure that the art of beadwork thrives, providing sustainable livelihoods for the women of Kibiko while celebrating and preserving their rich cultural heritage.
